This is the day when Hindu god
"Ramchandra" son of Lord "Dasharath" born. All
communities in Nagpur city celebrate "Ramjanam" with joy and
spirit of brotherhood. Though it is religious festival of Hindu, but
nearly all community participate and show the sense of togetherness.
This can be envisaged by viewing "Rath yatra". Rath yatra is
the procession of God Shri Ramchandraji from the "Ram Mandir"
temple to major part of city. Finally procession ends at the same
location from where it started.
"Rathyatra" starts from "Ram
Temple" (which is near main Nagpur railway station) at about 3.00
p.m. and covers Golibar Chowk , Itwari, Chitaraoli Chowk, Mahal,
Sukrawari Tank, Cotton Market, Lokhandi Pool, Sitabuldi and via railway
station road back to "Ram Temple".
Every year Nagpur city celebrates "Ram
Janam" with full devotion, joy and spirit. Nearly 2,00,000 people
gathers on both sides of the streets to welcome "Ram
Chandraji". Procession starts with the youngsters on skating
wearing traditional dresses. Followed by the tribal dances and then
"Ramchandraji" on chariot. Just before chariot young boys and
girls march ahead of chariot, they were wearing masks of different gods,
like, "Ganesh", "Hanuman" etc.
It is followed by "Zanki". Trucks
depicting the ancient culture and religious scenes.
