The concept behind PRAHAAR

The year 1991 witnessed the release of the Hindi Film "Prahaar" directed by the doyen of Indian Cinema Shri Nana Patekar. This film dealt with the hitherto unexplored area of a soldier's psyche. It depicted how a soldier's fierce desire to root out the evil forces prevalent in a society and causing internal disturbances, matches his ambition to conquer the enemy on the battlefield.

In fact, today the need to fight off the internal enemy is greater than ever. The last frame of the film shows a multitude of smiling, guileless children bereft of any vile or anti-social feelings, running together in the pure and natural state; an optimistic picture of tomorrow's citizens.

The "Prahaar Samaj Jagruti Sanstha" seeks to take a step towards realizing this very message of hope. Founded by Lt. Col. Sunil Deshpande VSM(Retd.)  who was the military consultant to this movie by the same name Prahaar organisation is developed keeping as its objective the message underlying in the film.

The movie depicts a very realistic picture of a soldier and today's society needs such kind of soldiers. It is with this objective of cultivating such a mindset in today's youth that Prahaar was founded on the 9th of January 1994. Prahaar is a political and is a charitable trust. It comprises of Ex-Service men and civilians working together to awaken the society.

Objectives of Prahaar

The main objective of Prahaar is to create a society which is essentially of military disposition. The basic qualities of a soldier like discipline, courage, vigilance, patriotism, and values of life, form the foundation of such a society.

Discipline and progress always go hand in hand. One cannot get ahead in life without a disciplined life-style. An individual's progress is synonymous with society's and ultimately the nation's progress. Courage and vigilance are equally important. A weak mind depletes man's inherent faculties of intelligence and reasoning. If today's society appears lethargic and passive, the cause of this inertia is the deep rooted fear of antisocial elements that it harbours.

This dread is a big hurdle in the path of the progress of the nation. Any task done by a person fearlessly reflects his confidence. Another sadly lacking quality in our society is vigilance. It is the duty of every citizen to keep himself informed about the state of affairs surrounding him and this is a virtue he must inculcate.

A society with an alert mind goes a long way towards progress. This is the foundation of a strong nation. Terrorism and anti-social activities are thriving in today's society. Keeping an eye open towards curbing them - this is the objective of the Prahaar movement. In these highly competitive times, it has become more essential that ever to uphold one's moral values and not to fall prey to all pervading corrupt practices.

Patriotism should not be reserved for battlefields and wartimes. A fierce sense of nationalism and price in our country should come to the forefront in our everyday life. It is essentially the basis of all other soldierly qualities. Such a healthy and well-knit society with the soldier's mindset is what Prahaar aims to achieve ultimately.
