Idli

Preparation time: 20 minutes 

Cooking time: 25 minutes

Serves 6

 

Ingredients:
2 cups of split black gram soaked in water for 7 hours.
2 cups of rice soaked in water for 7 hours.
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Method:

  1. Drain the split black gram and rice. Put the split black gram in a mixer with 4 tbsp. of water and grind to a paste. Then put the drained rice in a mixer add 2 tbsp. of water and grind to a coarse paste. Mix the split black gram paste and rice paste thoroughly with salt and 2 tbsp. of water. Ferment overnight. In the morning add to the batter, baking powder dissolved in 2 tsp. of water.
  2. Put 2-1/2 cups of water in the pan of the cooker without the cooking plate. Put 2 tbsp. of the idli batter in each depression of the idli stand. Then put the idli stand into the pan of the cooker with the cooking plate , cover with the lid and switch to 'cook mode'.
  3. After about 25 minutes the cooker will automatically switch to 'warm mode'. Switch off. Serve hot with Sambar.
