Koottu 

Preparation time: 45 minutes.

Serves 4-5

Ingredients:
½ cup channa dal 1 carrot
1 onion 1potato
100 gm. cauliflower 2 tbsp. fresh coconut [ground] 
Walnut size jaggery ½ cup shelled peas
Walnut size tamarind 1 tsp. cumin seeds 
1 tsp. mustard seeds 4-5 whole red chillies
½ tsp. red chilli powder 1 tsp. salt
Some curry leaves 2 tbsp. oil
A pinch of hing ¼ tsp. turmeric powder
Method:
  1. Boil the dal and mash it slightly. Cut all the vegetables into small pieces and boil. Heat oil . Put hing, curry leaves, jeera, mustard and whole red chillies. After the mustard crackles put the dal and vegetables. 
  2. Add jaggery, tamarind juice and one cup of water. Add salt, red chilli powder and tamarind. Cook for another 5 minutes on low heat. Add coconut and mix well. Serve with Parathas or Puris.
