The Motibagh Shri Skanda Samaj, which was inaugurated on the 30th Oct. 1967 by His Holiness Shri Dwarka Shankaracharya, has gradually grown from strength to strength. The Samaj records its deep appreciation and gratitude to all those who have extended unsstinted support, since these several years and to all participants who were involved in building up the unique temple structure which houses both Shri Balaji and Shri Kartikeya.
Situated in, the serene and picturesque surroundings of, Nagpur famed Seminary Hills, Shri Balaji and Shri Kartikeya Temple serves as a cosmopolitan centre for spiritual and cultural activities for devotees of Shri Balaji and Shri Kartikeya. The architecture of this temple is also unique, indeed since it has been synergised by deep devotion of devotees of the North and South measure.
The temple is always growing venture, as more and more devotees from far and wide come and seek spiritual solace. Devotees have time and again expressed that a Rajagopuram, a Mahamandapam, a library and a Vedic Pathashala should be taken up as a special project because this enhances the efficiency of the temple.
A Rajagopuram, serving as the main entrance to the temple, adds not only to the beauty, but as per our Seers and Sages it enhances the spirituality of the devotee, who enters through it to reach the abode of God. Scores of devotees entering through this portal leads to the development of special aura around the temple complex itself.
A Gopuram denotes the feet of God recorded in our scriptures and the visibility of this magnificent structure from a far reminds the devotee time and again of the existence of the supreme being and the devotee when he does pranam to the Gopura it is said to be as effective as touching the feet of God - in other words, "GOPURA DARSHAN PAPA VIMOCHANA".
A Rajagopuram is built having a number of madas or storeys, each storeys, having a dwaram or entrance. If there are three entrances, it signified the three states - Jagruti, Swapna and Shushupthi. If Five, it denotes the five senses, if seven, it denotes the five senses plus Manas and Buddhi. if nine, it denotes the previous seven plus Siddhi and Ahankara.
When one applies his mind to God he thinks about God. So as mind is important in tuning oneself to God, the main entrance of the Rajagopuram helps one to reach towards God.
The Managing Committee of the Samaj has taken up the project constructing the Rajagopuram, Mahamandapam, a Library and Vedic Pathashala all surrounded by an exquisite garden which will amount to over a crore of rupees.
