Markanda is a small village situated on
the left bank of the Vainganga river and known a place of pilgrimage.
The Markanda is supposed to derive its name from Sage Markandeya and
second from a beautiful group of temples including the one housing Siva
Linga which Markandeya is believed to have worshipped. There are
nearly twenty four temples in the group. There are no inscriptions
to tell their age but their style is so similar to that of the temples
of Khajuraho.
